Sow, Sew, Reap, Weep
site-specific, multi-media performed installation for four women with live accordion music
Four women performers in matching drab grey dresses and antique butcher's aprons, are each placed in their own, but connected, space in a former tenement, performing an action stated in title.
Materials include:
Sow: steel bucket, black seeds, scoop. Original cabinets found on-site were painted red on the interior.
Sew: chair, needle & thread, 30 yards of red fabric.
Reap: stripped willow branches, antique shears, red cord.
Weep: antique metal stool, handkerchief, one red pane in window.
Each room also included a large projection of early New York tenement/city conditions, circa 1890-1915. Weep included a sepia tone film loop of crashing wave by Myrel Chernick.
Live accordion music performed by Marc Kehoe.
