Lament
installation
Materials include: bed, latex canopy, white fabric, white sheets, blood-like fluid, rice, candles, mirrors painted with the last lines of Antistrophes, a Rilke poem. Almost indiscernibly, droplets of blood-fluid dripped through a pinhole in the canopy, gradually creating a large, red, sticky stain on the pristine white bed.
from Antistrophes
We, afflicted by ourselves
Gladly afflicting, gladly needing to be afflicted.
We, who sleep with our anger laid beside us
Like a knife.
You, who are almost protection
Where no one protects.
The thought of you is a shade-giving tree of sleep
For the restless creatures of a solitary man.
